I was looking though some old journals and wonder if I had followed my fathers advice, things would be different today.
In 8th grade, a classmate accused me of breaking their car model at school. I looked at it but didn’t remember breaking it. Classes changed rooms 5 or 6 times a day, so maybe someone else looked at it too.
The following week or so that classmate bullied me on the way home. Pushing and tripping, tore my pants, bruised my knees and elbows. Days I got home without incident were good days.
Violence was not accepted in my house and was considered uncivilized, animal behavior. God gave humans a brain to resolve their differences. This time my father gave different advice, “The next time they push you, pick up a rock or log and beat them till they leave you alone”.
I was smaller, they were big being held back a year and the advice went against my Christian upbringing, so not really an option.
Luckily, a couple days later another classmate confronted this bully and told him if he saw them pushing me around again he’d beat them up. The bullying stopped and I hope I thanked that person enough.
After reading my journal I wonder, if I’d done as my father suggested would this bully, older now, still be trying to bully me today.
Bullying is uncivilized, animal behavior and a mature individual should be able to talk through issues and find a middle ground without resulting to intimidation. Guess not all people are able to use their brain or are not willing to find middle ground, insisting things go their way regardless how it affects others.
To answer your question Rodney… there are too many animals pretending to be mature humans. That’s why the answer to “Can’t we all get along” is probably no.
